Not enough time is spent cleaning up the clutter that is your workspace. You never seem to find that one document that you urgently need or the keys to the file cabinet or your phone charger. And yet, it’s taking up huge chunks of your day!

If you’re spending a good part of your day trying to cruise through the chaos of your workplace, it’s going to show sooner or later and you’re likely to land into trouble. Our advice is to get working on cleaning it up once and for all – well, as long as you understand it’s going to need some keeping up.

Start afresh

Get rid of anything you no longer require. Things that you used to need or might require in the future should be filed separately and stored away. To effectively organize or reorganize your stuff, you need to get rid of everything that is not currently necessary.

Rearrange

Now that you’re rid of all that is unnecessary, it’s time to find solutions for the rest of the problems. Maybe you’ve become complacent with how things are because it’s been going on for too long. A quick and easy way to get your organizational instincts kick in is to rearrange everything to make it easier and quicker to access.

Learn to manage time

Disorganization could just be a symptom of a more common affliction – time mismanagement. One of the simplest and most effective ways to overcome this is to jot down everything you need to accomplish in a day – a to-do list – and assign each task the time it requires while making sure that you do not exceed it. Adhere to this pattern till you break the habit of miscalculating your priorities at work.

Organize digitally

The condition of your digital desktop, email and social media is a reflection of your organizational skills, or lack thereof. Remedying only one could become a hurdle in the rehabilitation of your habits. If you want to keep up the organization of your workspace, let the organization spread to other parts of your life that ask for it. Organize your digital desktop by getting rid of all that is unnecessary, much like you did with your physical desktop.

Get the right accessories

A big part of how you organize is what tools you use on a daily basis. A wrong filing system could breakdown your whole work ethic. Get the right filing cabinet, the right size desk (a height-adjustable or standing desk, if that suits you), an ergonomic chair and see the difference yourself. It’s alright to ask for things you need. Letting their absence hinder your work is not.

A malfunctioning office chair can be a drain on your productivity. Height-adjustable chairs are quite the norm now but it so happens that the gas cylinder that helps adjust the height is easily (and commonly) damaged. It always helps if you know exactly how to repair it, especially if you work from home (read alone). It’s rather easy – all you have to do is replace the cylinder.

Nicole Groshek from National Business Furniture explains how to do that.

How to Replace an Office Chair Cylinder

Does your chair sink down throughout the work day? Is it difficult for you to adjust your chair either up or down? If you are having these issues, you may need to replace the gas cylinder on your office chair in order to get it to function properly once again. This is actually a pretty simple process. Materials you will need:

  1. A rubber mallet
  2. A pipe wrench or a screw driver
  3. A replacement cylinder—you can request a new one by contacting NBF’s customer service at 1-800-558-1010 or online.
  4. WD-40—only necessary for older chairs or when you are having a difficult time removing parts of the chair. See full post here.

As a matter of fact, we have a better solution for you – call us at 321 203 2759 and we’ll help you through it. Looking to replace it? Browse through our catalog of premium office chairs at Vision Office Interiors .

The world is moving fast, and so is office culture. The Turkish furniture design firm Koleksiyon is popular for its furniture among giants like Mercedes-Benz, 3M and Phillips. After winning over the corporate sector in Europe, Koleksiyon is now trying to enter the US market.

The company is currently working on designs that bridge the gap between privacy and openness in an open office design.

Take a look at PaperCity’s article on Koleksiyon’s space age collection.

The Space-Age Office Furniture of the Future: An International Design Firm Brings Its Work Innovations to Dallas

A favorite for the European offices of such corporate elites as Mercedes-Benz, 3M and Philips, Koleksiyon — “collection” in Turkish — is known for envelope-pushing office furniture and space solutions. With showrooms throughout Europe, Koleksiyon has opened its second U.S. location in downtown Dallas — a stone’s throw from the Neiman Marcus flagship store. The first domestic showroom opened last year in New York’s Merchandise Mart. See full post here

Numerous reports have been blaringly announcing the doom we impose on ourselves by sitting in the same place all day, every day. Doing so not only robs us of the minimal amount of physical activity required to maintain our well-being, but also incites gradual physiological changes that compromise our bodies’ ability to regulate optimum functions. The least you could do is invest in a good office chair that reduces the damage in more ways than one.

So if you’re an employee who works all day sitting on a chair or an employer who manages such employees, stop everything you’re doing and take a look at this list of top 13 office chairs by Peter Saltsman.

The 13 Best Office Chairs

By now, we’re all vaguely aware that sitting all day will kill us. It’s like smoking or drinking or any other unpopular cause before it — we understand, but we don’t really want to acknowledge it. Doesn’t matter what the science says (things like people who sit all day are 54 percent more likely to die of a heart attack than people who don’t), we’re still not listening. How could we, anyway? Most of us work jobs that require us to stay perched for eight hours a day, often more. Well, we’re not here to tell you to quit. We’re not even here to compel feelings of guilt or to condone alternative lifestyles. We’re here to offer the most practical solution we can think of: a good desk chair. Our theory? If you’re going to be sitting all day — and unless you want to creep your coworkers out by being the weird guy with a standing desk peeking over his cubicle wall — you might as well have a good place to sit.
